Public Art Installation | July 28, 2020 - July 31, 2021 | Nugents Corner Market, Everson, WA
On July 28, 2020, Nugents Corner Market, in Everson, WA, revealed the first commissioned mural project by local artist David Syre. The mural will adorn the interior spaces of the newly reopened store for the next year.
The 52 ft-long mural painting, made of 9 individual panels, illustrates the local landscape seen through the eyes of the artist. Syre grew up just a mile down the road from the market so has a special affinity for life along the Nooksack River. The narrative starts at the right with the sun rising over Mount Baker and continues depicting flora and fauna along the banks of the Nooksack River. A mix of archetypal signs and symbols decorate the stylized horizon of the mountains that surround the area. In the typical style of Syre, the colors are bright and bold, the brushstrokes large and defined. The landscape is represented with minimalistic monochromatic areas while the details, such as animals, plants, celestial elements, and writings, are expressed with sharp and detailed lines. In the final 'scene', the moon sets over a fish in the watercourse. The painting sequence conveys that unique energy all his artworks emanate.
